Internet marketers in 2013 struggled to keep in sync with all the changes made by Google in its algorithm which dramatically affected their SERp.

Every time marketers strategize and recuperate from one Google update, there’s  another one down the road, as if it was a game of Whac-a-Mole. But if we were to predict the new strategies of Internet Marketing (by that we are referring to SEO) then what will they be .Lets have a look here for an interesting discussion.

 SEO is not dead but it is certainly evolving The algorithm dictating the search engine result may seem to have made some of the SEO techniques obsolete but new techniques are emerging and replacing old ones and SEO is still thriving in it’s midst. SEO will always be the ultimate tool to market content.

Content marketing – We have mugged up the slogan that “Content is the mother of all king there is” and I think it’s high time that everyone  accepted it .We need to create fresh, detailed and unique content to impress Google as well as our users because spamming(Content spinnig) seem to have become  a lost trade. And if you are caught you will pay it with your website.(getting it penalized)

SEO basics is still considered – Content is  the new way to optimize your website and gain traction. But you still have to optimize your site through keyword research and basic on-page SEO. Keyword research, is still just as important as it was before.

Social presence will be more important than search Search rankings and the SEO still matter. And It’s still beneficial to put your efforts into SEO. But having a strong social dominance on social networking sites is becoming more and more reliable in driving referral traffic and building brand awareness among people.

 Mobile marketing will be next new thing- Nearly 35-39 percent of emails are now viewed on a mobile device. Email marketing has always been the priority for successful marketers because email marketing is all about targeting the real customers who get unnoticed in the usual scheme of things. But now not only we need to optimize our websites for a mobile interface but we also need to update our mobile marketing techniques in sync with the mobile users. Beside that Smartphone users are still increasing and getting in demand. So I guess we would have to focus on that, such as we can build interactive mobile apps that will help clients and customers.

Local SEO will be more helpful– Google and Bing continue their trend of localizing search results. Focusing on aligning our strategy to optimize our website for local searches will eventually boost traffic on a local level. This is good for local businesses but will cause the death of the ‘national’ search in many aspects.

Natural language queries will be given more preference – Hummingbird is an entirely new algorithm being used by Google to decide which pages to select for their search results. When you typed a search phrase, Google would give preference to pages that had that exact phrase on them. The problem with this was that it encouraged copywriters and webmasters to “stuff” their pages with repetitions of their target phrases, trying to make their pages appear to be the “most relevant” for the phrase.
Hummingbird removes that temptation, by taking into account synonyms and near matches to the phrase. Now, a page that is written in more natural language, with variations and synonyms instead of many repetitions of the same phrase over and over, will get preference in being selected for the search results.
The idea is to try to reward better, more natural writing and discourage stilted, unnatural-sounding keyword-stuffed copy.

Evolution of SEO – The amalgam of  SEO and traditional public relations will represent a new SEO trend, taking the name “digital PR”. Internet Marketing (SEO) will become a part of Marketing communications and PR department. This will create more job opportunities, so fellow marketers don’t worry when you listen rumours that SEO is dead .It may change its clothes and camouflage itself into a new identity but believe me its alive and kicking hard.

Link building is just another form of business networking. There’s been wide speculation that link building has become obsolete because of the current guidelines of Google webmaster. The reasoning behind this is understandable, but It’s not entirely true. It comes down to the types of links we try to build for a website and the intent behind acquiring the link that matters. If you are building high quality backlinks right to your niche then you don’t need to worry.

Schema markup will earn its place-HTML is the web coding language that has been used since the beginning of the internet. The latest version, HTML 5, includes HTML tags that helps search engines understand structured data. (These tags are cataloged and referenced in Schema.org.) Structured data helps the search engines understand the different elements of a page, such as articles, events and local address information in more flexible manner.

In 2013 many things changed and all old and evil things that should have died were buried by updation in Google algorithms. But in 2014 SEO will be all about what it always should’ve been about. Creating a responsive design website, developing a content marketing strategy, engaging in social advertising, making sure our website is technically perfect and user friendly.
